The first rally of this the clubs 30th year took place on Sunday May 17th from Russborough House near Blessington, to Athy, Co Kildare when we stopped for for lunch. While most people adjourned to Hotel for lunch, some hardy souls wrapped up warm for a picnic at the Moat of Ardscull just outside the town. Its a venue famous in old car circles as the location of the Gordon Bennett Memorial to the Race of 1903 which selected this as a key spectator vantage point for the race. The road that can still be used today although thankfully the main traffic is carried by a new road nearby which allows old cars to pass in peace and stop a while to savour the history of the spot.
Following lunch the group made its way to the Curragh Racecourse to join up with the display of old Military Vehicles and enthusiasts in various Military costumes. The Curragh area has a long established close association with Military for British, Irish and also German given the large number of downed airmen held at the nearby Curragh camp during WWII.
Many thanks to all who supported the event and to the committee who put a lot of work into the organisation of it. A special mention to Pat Foley for these fantastic photos and on this occasion we have one of Pat with his Morris Minor.
